about

The collaboration between danish avantgarderock trio, SVIN, and the classical ensemble, Aarhus Sinfonietta, is in a way, the story of the bumblebee the shouldn’t be able to fly.

SVIN has been playing experimental avantgarde rock for over a decade. They’ve played at Roskilde Festival and in tiny punk clubs in rural Serbia. Their mix of jazz, noise, drone and many other genres has challenged their listeners but always expanded their fanbase because of their adventurous progressive sound.

Trying to fusion loud, experimental and noisy music with a classical ensemble is not an idea you think of every day.

Nevertheless, in 2019 they got the idea to write music for the classical ensemble Aarhus Sinfonietta and with the help of Lasse D. Hansen, who brought his expertise in arranging for classical ensembles, they wrote the composition ELEGI for 12 musicians: 4 percussionists, 4 wind players and 4 string players. With ELEGI the band was trying to write a complete composition that contemplates death and the sadness and beauty of it.

They performed it live with an octaphonic speaker setup at at a sold-out concert at the festival, Aarhus Festuge 2019.
Later that year they recorded it and are now releasing the music on the legendary classical label Dacapo Records november 26.

"And from the opening with "Elegi #1" to the ending "Elegi #3", this is a powerful and touching work, where SVIN's three members manage the feat of incorporating their own ideas with the brilliant symphony"

"I hope this is a project that the cultural authorities in Denmark, and for that matter, also the cultural authorities in Norway, Sweden and the rest of Europe, take on and book at some suitable festivals. Because this is powerful music that I would like to hear live at some festival."
